Takra Dhara is one of Ayurveda’s most cooling and therapeutic treatments, ideal for Pitta imbalance, stress, sleep issues and inflammatory skin conditions. In a Takra Dhara session a warm stream of medicated buttermilk (takra) is poured rhythmically over the forehead to calm the mind and settle the nervous system.
Ksheera Dhara is a soothing variation in which warm medicated milk is poured in a continuous gentle stream over the forehead and body, while Jaladhara uses medicated water or a herbal decoction for a similar cooling, grounding effect. Together, Takra Dhara, Ksheera Dhara and Jaladhara make up the “dhara” family of stream therapies.
These treatments are closely related to Shirodhara. To find out which stream therapy suits you, please book a consultation with a qualified practitioner. For general background, see Shirodhara on Wikipedia.
