Shamana Therapy

Shamana therapy is the calming counterpart to Shodhana. Instead of eliminating toxins, Shamana pacifies the doshas through diet, lifestyle adjustments, herbal formulas, and mild external therapies. It is subtle yet effective in restoring internal harmony.

The word Shamana comes from Sanskrit and means “to pacify” or “to palliate”. Rather than forcibly expelling toxins from the body as Shodhana does, Shamana therapy gently brings aggravated Vata, Pitta and Kapha back into balance. This makes it a softer, non-invasive approach that suits people who are not strong enough for intensive cleansing, those with mild or early-stage imbalances, and anyone wishing to maintain wellbeing after a Shodhana or Panchakarma program.

Classical Ayurveda describes several tools used within Shamana therapy. These include deepana and pachana (herbs and spices that kindle the digestive fire and help the body process toxins), langhana (lightening practices such as mindful fasting), and the supportive use of warmth, gentle movement and fresh air. Alongside these, a practitioner may recommend a dosha-appropriate diet, a balanced daily routine (dinacharya), calming herbal formulations, and soothing external treatments that settle both mind and body.

Because Shamana works gradually and gently, it is especially valuable for everyday self-care and prevention. With the right guidance it can ease common complaints such as sluggish digestion, low energy, stress and restlessness, while steadily strengthening the body’s own ability to stay in balance. As with any therapy, Shamana is best undertaken with advice from a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner who can tailor it to your individual constitution.

Reduces inflammation and imbalance
Improves digestion and mental calmness
Non-invasive and restorative

Perfect for individuals with early-stage imbalances, stress-related symptoms, or those needing a maintenance approach after detox.
